After all the organization stress has passed, we want to send you a big THANK YOU for having supported the 1st International Film Festival on Short Films and Documentaries in Srebrenica, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Within the 3 days of festival, we showed 18 short films and documentaries produced by professionals and amateurs, from the region and beyond. The films were from Bosnia and Herzegovina, from Serbia, Slovenia, Croatia, France and Germany. They introduced the audience into war narratives, the life of miners and construction workers, of Roma, of young people in Srebrenica, of a woman living alone in a village, in the history of Bosnia and Herzegovina, presented life in Hiroshima, in France after the 2nd World War, in Palestine...Unfortunately, we could not screen all films which were send to us – some due to problems with the subtitle, some due to the late arrival and some because they did not fit in the final program. We are sorry for that, but hope to screen them at the next year’s festival – of course, only with your permission.

Even though the festival marked the first step in establishing a culture for documentaries in Srebrenica, we were happy to welcome all age groups. A driving motor for raising interest were definitely the four documentaries produced by film teams from Srebrenica. After the festival has taken place, we see the main strength of the festival in screening both, amateur films and professional films. It particularly served young film makers as source for new ideas, which was intensified by the workshop given by a professional film maker from Banja Luka on Sunday. The festival also introduced the audience in various methods of capturing social life in documentaries.

To our own surprise, the media showed an overwhelming interest in our festival. All major media, print and electronic, in Bosnia and Herzegovina reported about the festival - even, the evening news on BH1 called attention to it. Furthermore, the festival was backed up by the municipality of Srebrenica. In his opening speech, the mayor Abdurahman Malkic highlighted the importance of such a festival for the social life in Srebrenica – a place in which life is still shaped by the aftermaths of the genocide of 1995.

The realization of the festival was only possible with the support of all the film makers who agreed to show their films free of charge. Thank you again so much!!! Through the course of the organization we also established many fruitful relations to other film festivals, film-maker associations and platforms in the region and beyond which also contributed significantly to the success of the festival. Thank you so much! For the next year, the festival is planned as an Open-Air festival for the late Summer. We would be happy to welcome you then again in our festival team.

Hvala vam puno,

Ljubiša, Jane, Mikica, Nedeljko, Aco, Ida, Davorin, Duli, Sika, Neco, …
