The Srebrenica DOKfilmfestival will take place from the 28th until the 30th September 2007 in Srebrenica, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Within these 3 days, around 20 documentaries will be shown, both amateur and professional, from the region and beyond. If the weather allows for it, the films will be shown on a big screen at the park, in the centre of Srebrenica reaching as much as people as possible. There will be no entrance fee charged for watching the films.

The aim of the Srebrenica DOKfilmfestival is to introduce especially young people in Srebrenica into the medium of documentaries – as both, a medium to talk about social issues, as well as a medium to express their own thoughts. Srebrenica as place of genocide is still core of political debates in BiH also impacting the inter-ethnic relations in Srebrenica. Young people in Srebrenica are confronted with war memories on an every day basis, yet are missing the appropriate means to deal with it. Srebrenica is crowded by journalists and filmmakers coming from abroad and making their stories. Introducing young people into film making means providing them with the means to present their stories about Srebrenica.

The Srebrenica DOkfilmfestival is part of the project "My digital eye, point of view", a 6-month-project funded by Pro Helvetia, Schweizer Kulturstiftung e.V. The project is implemented by «Savjet Mladih Srebrenice», the person in charge is Ljubiša Milovanić. In workshops, young people were introduced into the basics of film production. They have been assisted in their film projects and brought together with a German professional film maker. The result are three short documentaries about their life in Srebrenica. With the status of an NGO, «Savjet Mladih Srebrenice» is financially supported by «Co-operating Netherlands. Foundations for Central and Eastern Europe». Besides the film festival, the youth centre organizes annual events such as the Rock-Festival «Silvershine Town» and the Theatre Festival in Srebrenica.
